The 12.6-hectare Bentley Technology Park is a mixed-use precinct designed to support local businesses in the science, technology and research sectors.
Within this precinct, the former Brodie Hall Function Centre has been refurbished into ‘The Hub’, thanks to a $7.5 million funding boost through the State Recovery Plan. The Hub has been designed as an innovative and sustainable centre of excellence including co-working and networking spaces, a Global Streaming Centre and a Green Room Studio.
Alongside these amenities is a commitment to achieve a net-zero certification for this facility. A rooftop 99.6kW PV array and 360kWh battery storage system is expected to provide 91 per cent of the total electrical consumption for The Hub, with the remaining nine per cent supplied through ‘clean energy’ sourced from the mains grid.
The building refurbishment works also included upgrades to the lighting and air-conditioning to achieve an estimated eight per cent reduction in total energy load.
Once the system is installed, a 12-month monitoring period will be undertaken to assess and fine-tune the building’s performance, which is the final step in achieving the net zero certification.
The Hub facility is being operated by Spacecubed Ventures and officially opened in May 2023.
